Kogi State’s Public Service Reinvention

Kogi State public service in the last two years has been repositioned for optimal performance in line with the new direction Agenda of His Excellency’s Administration through the Staff Screening and auditing exercise which is aimed at not only restoring the service but also to engendering probity, accountability, and value for money.
The State Government has ensured that salaries of officers who are cleared are paid up to date with an assurance that all genius Public Servants and Pensioners who are yet to be paid will be paid.

Government also gave priority to the regular payment of counterpart fund to the Kogi State Public Sector Governance Reforms and Development Project (KSPSGRD), a World Bank Assisted Project, which has enabled the implementation of the following: Training workshops and seminars for stakeholders across the Ministries and Agencies covered by the project which include Office of the Head of Civil Service, BIR, Bureau for Public Auditor-General, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Staff Development Centre among others and in such institutions as: Royal Institute of Public Administration (RIPA) London., Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), and Centre for Management Development (CMD) Lagos.

Over three hundred converted transferred officers were inducted during this period. Procurement and distribution of operation equipment to selected MDs to enhance their performance: these include: laptop and desktop computers, vehicles, digital cameras, furniture’s etc. the use of this equipment have helped the MDAs in no small measure, to deliver services in a more cost-effective and efficient measure. This has ensured the protection of government sensitive information and documents, facilitation of attendance at critical meetings and monitoring of government projects.

The provision of infrastructural facilities across the State of which Public Servants are one of the major beneficiaries e.g. beautification, restructuring and improvement of the aesthetic environment of the State Secretariat to make offices conducive for workers to carry out their assignment. Government-sponsored Civil Service Week celebration where outstanding officers were adequately rewarded as a form of motivation for others. Government-sponsored the active participation of State delegates to both the National Council of Establishment held at Minna, Niger State and Public Joint Negotiation Council meeting at Abuja. Construction of Drivers office at the State Secretariat to ease their work.
