Kogi State Council of Journalists (NUJ), has commended Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State over his courage and steadfastness in tackling insecurity in the State.
This was part of the communique issued on Saturday at the end of the NUJ, Kogi Council Congress, held at the Press Centre, Lokoja.
The council expressed confidence and support for the governor’s ability to contain the excesses of bandits, armed robbers and other dangerous criminals, within a short period of assumption of office.
While commending the State Governor for being alive to his responsibility in terms of providing security, the Union, however urged the Government to sustain the efforts in securing lives and property of citizens both on the highways and residences.
The Union also described as heartwarming the government’s renewed efforts in infrastructural development across the State, especially the Ganaja junction flyover project which if completed would go along way to ease flow of traffic.
The communique also reminded the government to complete the Ganaja – Otokiti bypass to reduce the unnecessary accidents involving heavy duty trucks passing through the metropolis.
While the union eulogises the Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engineer Abubakar Ohere over the on going infrastructural development works across the State, however urged him to as a matter of urgency brief the press on the breakdown and other necessary information on the projects for public consumption.
NUJ also appealed to the State Government to consider the plight of the people in the State capital, Lokoja, over non adequate supply of water.
On the state of the union , the Congress identified lack of revenue base as one of the major problems affecting the smooth running of the union. Congress therefore called on members to come up with ideas that will enhance the revenue base of the union.
“Congress also identified individuals that have enhanced the development of the union, specifically commended the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kolawole Matthew for his contributions, donations and supports to the union; especially the proposed
chalet extension, which the speaker has agreed to build for the union.
Congress frowned at the misinterpretation by some members of executive arm of government and political class whenever suggestions are made on issues that affect the lives of the citizens, urged them to understand that the press has responsibility both to the government and the governed.
