Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission

                                                         

Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission was established in 2001 as provided for under section 197 sub-section 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.
The functions of the Commission are:-

  1. To organise, undertake, conduct and supervise all elections to Local Government Councils within the State.
  2. To render such advice as it may consider necessary to the Independent National Electoral Commission on either the compilation of the register of voters so far as that register is applicable to Local Government Elections in the State or the creation of wards or to such other matters as the commission shall deem fit.

In the light of the above enumerated functions of the commission it has successfully conducted election into the Local Government councils for two consecutive times in 2004 and 2008 respectively
The Commission has equally in 2009, recommended to the Independent National Electoral Commission for purposes of harmonisation areas considered necessary for the creation of new wards in the State.
